Let’s go Naked - No packaging Hair Regime

I knew that plastic is big problem and there’s this big hullabaloo of using less plastic, but I must say I was totally oblivious to the fact how serious this problem actually is.  When I attended the LUSH Turning the Tide talk, I was disillusioned and saddened by the fact that plastic is taking over our planet. If you want to read more about why I decided to start using Naked products, check out my Let’s go Naked blog post here.

Economical, naked and self-preserving; what’s not to love about solid shampoo bars? The LUSH highly-concentrated handfuls, loaded with powerful natural and fresh ingredients,  essential oils and conditioning butters do the job of three 250g bottles of liquid shampoo. Each mighty bar gives you 80 -100 washes (depending on hair shape, thickness and length) and is a lot lighter and slimmer than a shampoo bottle. Furthermore, you create a smaller carbon footprint when washing with these solid shampoos too.

Smaller carbon footprint:

One lorry full of solid shampoo bars holds roughly the same number of washes as fifteen lorries filled with liquid shampoo! Crazy right???

In South Africa, the brand has 8 different formulations, one considered a co-wash, with various essential oil blends to treat unique hair concerns.  Later this year, more shampoo bars will be added to their offering.

The first one I’ve tried out is the Trichomania shampoo - it’s ultra-hydrating, with protein-rich creamed coconut to coat each strand with moisture to leave hair soft and strong. This cares for your scalp too. The smells is absolutely amazing and you get hints of coconut. It’s a subtle smell, that I quite love. It moisturizes my hair and make it feel really soft, clean and lightweight. It lathers better than the conditioner and is easy to use. It also dries quickly, so it doesn’t get soggy.

How to use:

Wet your hair.

Stroke the solid shampoo down it a few times to lather it up, or rub the bar between your hands to create a lather.

Gently massage it into the scalp and hair, as you would with a liquid shampoo.

Rinse out and condition if your hair would like a little extra loving.

Leave the bar out to air dry, ready for its next use.

So there you have it! Why not give one a whirl and share your thoughts on it?

The conditioner I am using, is the Big Solid Conditioner - it’s sensationally-scented and has this lovely citrus/coconut smell, that I absolutely adore.  It’s BIG on VOLUME and SHINE - and I am all for the volume, because my hair is so fine. It contains fine sea salt that adds softness and shine and the protein-rich toothed wrack seaweed helps make your hair more manageable (that’s not usually I problem I struggle with).  The lemon and lime juice adds gloss, by helping the cuticles lie flat, thus reflecting light. It makes my hair feel so soft and voluminous and I just love this.

How to use:

Rub the bar between your hands to create a lather

Apply a small amount to wet, washed hair - a little goes a long way. Don’t worry, it doesn’t lather much, but is very effective.

I like to leave in the conditioner, while I wash and shave.

Rinse thoroughly before leaving the shower.

The hot treatment I used, is Marilyn - Marilyn helps blondes (natural or bottled), to maintain their hue and keep it bright, not brassy. Chamomile helps to naturally lighten the hair, while organic lemon juice encourages the cuticle to lie flat and reflect more light, creating a dazzling shine. A touch of saffron intensifies colour for that extra ‘boo boo be doo’! Now, I haven’t coloured my hair in ages and haven’t been to the hair salon in months, but my tips are coloured blonde (a long time ago).  This treatment just gave new life to my blonde tips.

How to use:

Fill a mug with boiling water (leaving a little space at the top)

Simply stir in your hot oil treatment until it has completely melted

Allow the treatment to cool for 20 minutes before applying to dry hair

Sit back and relax for 20 minutes before shampooing out

This was something I wondered about: Made too much? Keep in the refrigerator for a moisture top up, as often as you need for up to 4 weeks.
